Everyone has their own innate sense of personal style. You know you have found your perfect look when you put on an outfit that makes you feel ready to rock the party.

So what creates the magic of that moment? Often when outfits look best, there are three principles at work.  Firstly the colours compliment your skin tone, secondly the cut of the clothing flatters your shape and thirdly the style reflects your personality.

The secret to finding your style is to align these three principles throughout your wardrobe and shopping choices. Then you can replicate the magic time after time.

Colour is the first step. By identifying whether you suit warm or cool tones, bright or muted shades and deep or light hues; you will find the perfect colours to compliment you.

You can tell if a colour suits you by placing an article of clothing in that colour over one shoulder and comparing it with what you are wearing.  Look at the two sides of your face in a mirror to see the effect. Pay attention to under your eyes, cheeks, jaw line and neck to see which colour makes you look best. What you want to see is a fresh glowing complexion and not one that needs more sleep!

Shape is the second step. Understanding your body shape, scale and proportions will help you to know what cuts of clothing look best on you. Going through your Facebook photos can be a good starting point for this, as you will soon see which styles work and which ones don’t! Make a note of the ones that suit you best and you will see a pattern emerging.

The final piece of the formula is personality. Personal style can be almost intangible yet this is what makes you stand out from the crowd. As Coco Chanel said, ‘look for the woman in the dress. If there is no woman, there is no dress.’ The same is equally true for men’s style; it’s all about dressing for you and being true to your look.

Picking up a fashion magazine and taking out the pictures that inspire you can be a great way to find the style you love.  Why not pin them up inside your wardrobe to inspire your look. Try it and let us know how you get on. Until next time, enjoy your style!
